My darkroom practice consists of traditional black&white film processing and printing, color film processing, dry plate processing, wet plate collodion in-camera capture and wet plate printing, gum bichromate printing, platinum/palladium printing, and cyanotype printing.
When I graduated from college in 1998, I was unsure how I could continue to work in film based photography. I spent many years lamenting the rise of digital and my lack of resources to continue producing work in my chosen method. Eventually (close to 20 yrs), I realized that I could develop film in my windowless bathroom. That changed everything. I soon began to dabble in cyanotype. This led to me acquiring enlargers and fashioning a darkroom in my basement. I reacquainted myself with film photography, took a few classes in alternative processes, and haven’t looked back. This was 6 years ago.
*There are times when I have to make an archival pigment print. I have learned to see the beauty in digital printing. It is another tool that I am happy to have access to.
